ACRT Arborist Training commissioned me to create a comprehensive update of their 2005 training manual to align with current industry standards and enhance the efficacy of their training classes. The project objectives included incorporating updated branding elements, designing hundreds of new technical illustrations, and ensuring compliance with the latest ANSI standards.
My development process involved extensive stakeholder engagement, including in-depth interviews with arborist trainers to assess pedagogical needs and validate technical diagrams. To ensure accuracy and relevance, I conducted on-site field research to gain firsthand experience in arboricultural tools and practices. This immersive approach informed the creation of detailed, precise educational illustrations and diagrams.
Considering ACRT Arborist Training's budgetary constraints and preference for traditional educational formats, we developed a cost-effective printing strategy while maintaining a design aesthetic reminiscent of academic textbooks. The final deliverable was a 300-page Line Clearance Manual, featuring high-quality photographs and proprietary diagrams.
As an additional outcome, we extracted and redesigned the Chainsaw Safety and Maintenance chapter as a standalone handbook, creating a new, separately marketable product to complement the main manual. This strategic decision expanded ACRT's educational product line while providing focused, easily accessible safety information for practitioners.
